Last week I pried my lovely little parasite from my womb.
Isn't he a cutie pie? (For safety reasons, I'm not posting any more information about him. I hope you understand.) I'm cured of my placenta brain and will be back to normal in no time. YAY!
It's no surprise that for the past several weeks I haven't been writing as much as usual, but I have been reading nonstop. So, I'd like to share my favorite recent reads.
Hex Hall Series
Technically these are three books, but I read them so quickly and they flow together so nicely I'm counting them as one. The plot grabbed me from the get-go and didn't let up. Above all, the teen voice is fantastic. These are fun, fast reads with tons of humor.
This book has received mixed reviews, but I love it. Dixon's writing is beautiful, the voice of each princess is distinct, and her antagonist reminds me of David Bowie from the Labyrinth. This is worth borrowing from the library.
The Girl of Fire and Thorns
This book wasn't a fast read for me. Though the story line is intriguing, there's a lot of religious symbolism that caused me to stop and pause—in a good way. I enjoyed the MC's characterization, but this has an older feel than YA. I'm lending it to my adult friends.
